Updates

 Well it's been a minute and life got busy! We built an antique store,ran it for 4 years and then life threw us some curve balls...so we are back to doing what Chris loves the most, remodeling houses with recycled materials! We sold the building our store was in, moved to a new city and bought a house to remodel! Did I mention that Chris remodeled 2 houses after open the antique store?!? Yeah he likes to stay busy. So the plan is to go back to posting on the blog and sharing some of the projects that we have done and are still doing!

More progress

We have been working our butts off to get this building tore apart. Thankfully my mom and I have been there almost everyday with Chris working on it in the evenings and on weekends. We are a few days away from being done with the tear outs and we will start working on the build back. That part is way more interesting!!

There was just so much stuff left everywhere around this place. 20 years worth of clean up needed. Just as many years worth of undone repairs.

We did find this in some of the piles of trash. One of the few treasures.

our new adventure...

As of February 15th we are the proud new owners of the old Lumberyard in Adrian MO. in the next several months we will be removing old remodels and rewiring the main building. Our plan is to open up a store front to sell recycled/upcycled goods and antiques. We will be looking for like minded people that love old stuff, and rent out booth space for them to sell their creations or collections. We think that you have to have stuff already made but you have to have stuff for people to create their own visions with too. The more local people involved the better. We want to see this storefront become a destination to visit off of the highway. We would love to eventually have craft fairs, flea markets, makers fairs, bbq cookoffs, and or car shows in the open areas on the property. You can see the back of the buildings from Interstate 49. The plan is to use some of the ideas that we used on our house as similar decorating ideas for our store. We would also like it to be a place for our youngest Special needs daughter to be able to work and interact with people. The front of the building is above. The property itself is pictured below. It sits on almost 3 acres in town with 8 buildings. The bonus is there is a building that has storage units too.

 The first 6 pictures are of the front area of the building when you walk in. They had a show room of products in it that included a garage door and some vinyl siding on the walls, along with some stone. There were 6 rooms. 2 offices, a walk through room, a bathroom, a utility room and then the main room. I say were.....

We invited a few friends and a lot of family over to help us tear out the first section of the building. In a matter of 2 days we had it back to what we want to keep.

 The last few days it has been just Chris, my mom and I. We got the flooring all demoed out, took down the light fixtures, started pulling the kitchen cabinets and started to take out the drywall.

We started taking out the kitchen. The granite counter tops are tricky.

A big shop and some new projects...

The big shop that is outside of our house is now all the way sided and waiting for paint. It is too cold to paint but we have been working on the doors and completing the framing for the bathroom inside.

This is one of my projects. I took an old table and chairs set and used a crochet table cloth to recover the seats. I stained the top of the table darker and painted the legs to match the chairs.

This is a funny Spider that Chris welded around Halloween. It is a smudge pot with sickle blades as the legs.

This is a yard flower that Chris welded up using some of the rusty piles we have laying around.

The second flower that Chris made. I liked this one the best.

I don't think I ever took a picture of the handrail for our steps on the porch. They are big metal wagon wheels with a scythe.

This is a vintage hutch that had some water damage to it so I had to paint it. It is a soft grey with blue interior and then I distressed it. I don't have anywhere to put it yet though so I have left it in storage for now.

 

 

 This is what Hunter made me for Christmas. It is an old ladder used as a shelf for pictures. He even made me picture frames!

 This is a fruit stand that Chris helped me make. We took 3 metal bowls, drilled holes in them and took an old standing lamp apart to put it all together. I think it is beautiful!

 

 

 AND since you have read all the way to the bottom...coming soon....we are buying a older commercial building and we are going to open a storefront. It will be for antiques and repurposed items. We are going to decorate the building very similar to our house and maybe use a few of the extra grain bins we have laying around!
