More work on the outside

We have been working on some of the outside stuff the last few weekends. We got both of the outdoor mini split condensers mounted on the bins. They are pretty high off the ground! The first picture is the one for the North half of the house.
This one will run the South end of the house.
We got the railing up on the back deck.

The deck to Hunter's room is now done.

Now we can officially say the back deck is DONE!!!!
Now for the reason we had to switch to working on the outside....the inside floors are being finished! I will be able to take better pictures of the floor soon. Right now we can not get on them so there is no lighting to show you what they look like. We ended up hiring someone to do the floors. That was not what we had planned and we still question whether that was the right choice or not but we did it. They are very pretty and we like them a lot.

Getting to the fun parts more.

To talk a bit about the money first because I always forget...to date we have spent $66,850 on our house. That includes most of the inside fixtures and appliances. We still are going to have the floors stained and then the final electrical work that will be bigger bills to add in. Most of the rest should not cost that much (I hope). I don't think that is bad at all for a 3200 square foot house!

We finally got around to picking out the paint colors for the walls. That took about a week to figure out. In some of the rooms we have the antique tin so we have to pick colors that will go with it. Then we have the barn wood and the grain bins. Then we add in the fact that most of the rooms are open to each other so they kind of have to match....let's just say it is hard to choose! There were a couple of colors that I am thinking are going to have to be retinted, because they are not quite looking the way I wanted but we will see after we get some on the walls for sure. We bought the paint at Lowe's. They were having a sale over Memorial Day weekend and we bought 3 five gallon buckets and 17 gallons of paint for $1200 BUT we are getting $260 back in rebates for that paint!! I have also bought a few more gallons that we mistints at $9 a gallon!

This tin will go in the upstairs North grain bin bathroom. You can't tell so well from the pictures but it is a light grey and the walls will be a light turquoise shade.

This tin will go in the back hallway from floor to ceiling. It is a light yellow/gold color.

The above tin is in the library and it was the brown and will be blue. The whole ceiling will be this color and the walls a lighter shade. Chris is not convinced that he likes it yet but I assure him that the color needs to be lighter because we are putting a lot of brown in this room.

The tin in the kitchen we decided to keep and just clear coat it.

More of the same wall...

This wall was the hardest to find a color to go with. The only thing we could come up with was a grey with a hint of purple in it to kind of help blend it in more. We have stainless appliances too so there will be a lot of grey in here!

Trying to get all of the drywall in

There has been a lot going on around here but not much that is worth taking pictures of. Drywall is pretty boring. Taping drywall is boring. Plumbing is boring. Running the lines for the HVAC is boring. There are only a few pictures of things that might be any interest at all.

Chris working on the main floor bathroom. Putting that shower unit in and getting it set took an entire day. There then was more plumbing to pun before the drywall could be put up.

After the drywall on the side with all the plumbing.
Ta-da. Drywall is done in this bathroom!

This is the back bathroom. It was supposed to be the room for my mom but she has decided to not move in with us at this point in time so it has become the "game room" bathroom. We really didn't need another shower in here but since it had already been plumbed for one and we had the stuff for it....we went ahead and put it in. So, this is bathroom #4.
Laundry room. Chris had to build out a flat wall to put the plumbing in and to set the washer and dryer against something flat because this happens to be one of the curved walls.

And now that room is done with drywall.
This is the master bedroom shower that Chris is currently working on.

Chris has also been running the lines and the electric wire for the mini splits. This is what the mounting brackets look like for the units. This is for the one in the main living room.

Slowly making progress

Progress has been pretty slow. The weather has been an issue. For the most part though lack of time is the issue. We have had things going on at least one day each weekend which only leaves one day to work on the house. A few of those weekend days were spent repairing a water leak in the house we are living in. It was 20 degrees and snowing and the water pipe underground cracked. Then it was just one thing after another; the pipe was broken farther back than originally thought, the tractor with the backhoe attachment would not start, a septic lateral line that we didn't know about was hit, and finally the water heater had run dry and burnt up the heating elements in it.  Chris has been working on hanging the rest of the ceiling in the North grain bin. He started taping the joints in one room and got the first coat on it all. Chris also has been testing all the plumbing lines to make sure there are no leaks before he covers then with drywall.

Starting the finishing of the drywall in a few of the areas that are hung,

The walls in the upstairs North Grain bin are hung.

The many pieces of the ceiling are going up in the North Grain bin. That is something Chris is ust having to do by himself  because it is a lot of angles and cuts.

Our heating and air conditioning units were ordered and came the other day. There will be two mini splits units outside and then 7 heads on the inside that will provide all of the air conditioning and the heat that the radiant floor isn't able to provide. The cost of these units were $6000. The quotes that we got for traditional HVAC were anywhere from $12,000 to $20,000.

Hunter brought home several more pieces of tin ceiling that were at his work Now we just have to figure out where we can make them work. Of course, they were free!!

Drywall,drywall and more drywall..

It has been a really long time since I posted but there is not much to take pictures of. All we are doing is hanging drywall and there are only so many pictures of that you can take. Plus with odd shaped rooms it is hard to get an angle that you can see anything. We have picked up a few more things at an auction this weekend. We bought a kitchen sink and some ceiling fans. There is another building material auction next weekend we are going to in search of tile for the bathrooms.

This is the Northern most bedroom in the upstairs.

This is the South bedroom in the North grainbin. Confusing I know...

Another picture of the same room. It is impossible for me to figure out how to take pictures now that the walls are covered.

The West wall of the South grain bin upstairs.

The ceiling in that same side. Chris took a break from cutting all those little pieces to hang some drywall.

Same side of the grainbin the east side. The openings are for closets and a master bathroom.

The stairwell in the south grain bin.

The downstairs of the South grain bin.

Drywall and ceilings

It has been a productive week but has taken a bit of time to get there. We have all been pretty sick around here. One of our daughter's even had pneumonia. Earlier in the week we got the delivery of our drywall. Chris has worked with Holmes Drywall for years with his job so we ordered the drywall from them and there was a lot of it. $3200 worth. It was nice to have them delivery it and set it all inside for us though. It saved me a ton of work!!

This weekend Chris had his brother Cale and our son Hunter help him to hang some of the drywall. They only had part of a day on Sunday but they got a couple of rooms done and a little bit more.

This is the beadboard that will be going on the kitchen ceiling and the master bedroom ceiling, We bought a couple of pallets of it at an auction. We paid about $600 for all of it,

This is what the ceiling in the master bedroom will look like. It will take a long time to do because there is a ton of  little pieces but I think it will look really nice.

This is what the kitchen ceiling will look like. We don't have it all up but the delivery of the drywall kind of stopped the progress on it because it is sitting everywhere right now.

Our wonderful neighbor was also able to come and get our septic tank in before the weather turned super cold. We really appreciate his help. Every little thing gets us closer to being done.
